Jeff Lupient: Guidelines When Pre-Ordering a Vehicle

According to Jeff Lupient, there are certain things you have to remember when ordering a car from the factory. He shares them below as a guide for you.

1. Decide on the car that you really want.

It is the whole point of custom ordering a new car – the allure of personalizing your vehicle. That means that you need to figure out not only what your next vehicle will be but also how you want it equipped.

For example, if you’re shopping for either a Honda or an Acura, the customizable options are quite limited. However, if you’re talking about cars like a Porsche 911 or Ford F-150, you’ll have a plethora of options to consider.

2. Don’t get too eager with the options.

Jeff Lupient says that you have to think twice before checking off every box on the options list because doing so will cost you more. Also, when you sell the car, you probably won’t recover the extra expenses.

If you care more about getting what you want than you do its future resale value, then there’s no problem. You have to know that your specific tastes may not be shared by the car-buying public, especially when you go to sell.

The less popular options on a vehicle won’t necessarily add to the resale value. In fact, in most cases, they actually decrease it.

When people are shopping for a used car, they are more interested in saving money, much more so than paying for your chrome wheels or technology package.

3. Plan.

If you plan carefully and early, your vehicle will arrive as you sell your old one to a new owner or even as you wrap up your lease.

Jeff Lupient says that few folks purchase a car on a whim. Others have to replace their current vehicle in a matter of weeks or maybe even days.

If you plan, however, you don’t have to worry about compromising on the vehicle you want. It is certainly also the time to look at what you need for financing.

Try to prequalify for financing either from your bank or credit union. In most cases, the automaker’s finance department can offer a better rate. You can ask your salesperson about that too.

4. Find the right dealer for you.

Jeff Lupient says that when you order a vehicle, your relationship with the dealer is very important. It is the organization you’ll be in contact with throughout the entire process. You’ll be talking to them, from taking your initial order to setting up delivery.

A good dealership will keep you updated on the progress of your order without the need for you to reach out.

Choose your dealership the same way you would if you were buying a car off a lot. Always read reviews and find friends who have bought there to ensure you have a smooth experience. Also, be sure you have a salesperson who is knowledgeable about the process.
